Hypnotherapy for helping overcome Anxiety and Panic Attacks

We all get a little nervous from time to time and experience a touch of the butterflies in our stomach before an event that takes us outside our comfort zone, typically these may be before a test or exam, at a job interview or giving a talk or presentation.

Anxiety and stress is something all of us talk about and have experienced at some point in our lives, and to a certain extent in short bursts, stress can be a useful stimulant and motivator causing us to do our best.

The good news is, that whatever stress or anxiety make worse, Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy can make better

What is anxiety?

Anxiety can be experienced at different levels, and although most people experience a relatively mild form of anxiety when facing particularly stressful situations (such as a speech or presentation) anxiety disorders are severe and can disrupt a person’s day-to-day life. Anxiety can be brought on by a fear of something that happened, or what we think happened and dread happening again.

When a person suffers from an anxiety disorder it may lead to avoidance of certain situations because they fear their anxiety may be triggered again. It becomes the fear of the fear of anxiety. This can in turn lead to relationship and/or career problems such as not being able to apply for potential job opportunities or promotions and being unable to develop personal relationships.

Generalised anxiety disorder (GAD)

Individuals suffering from generalised anxiety disorder often anticipate tragedy and worry extremely about family, money and health. Generalised anxiety disorder interferes with daily life and is usually diagnosed when an individual spends at least six months worrying excessively about normal everyday problems. Other minor issues such as chores or appointments can also cause anxiety and for some, just getting through the day can be extremely stressful.

Panic attacks

Another type of anxiety disorder is panic disorder which is characterised by terror, which strikes suddenly without warning. Panic attacks are a common symptom of panic disorder, but not everyone who has a panic attack will develop panic disorder. Panic disorder is much more common than is generally recognised and affects a large proportion of the population.

Social anxiety disorder

Social anxiety disorder is also a type of anxiety disorder, which is defined by extreme anxiety and discomfort in social situations. According to some research, social anxiety (also known as social phobia) is the third most common psychiatric disorder after depression and alcoholism. Fear of being around other people, having to interact with them and being judged negatively by them are the common signs of social anxiety.

Agoraphobia

Agoraphobia (the fear of open spaces, crowds, public places and/or travelling alone) is another severe form of anxiety.

All of these anxiety issues are much more commoner than you may imagine. Most people tend to hide them, and never discuss them with anyone. This of course can add to the pressure and anxiety by having to pretend that everything is alright.

The symptoms of anxiety

Treating anxiety and panic attacks

Hypnotherapy can help by identify the root cause of the anxiety, and can provide tools to be used to stop a panic attack before it begins. Just knowing that you will be able to handle an attack when it happens, can greatly reduce the impact of the event. Hypnotherapy for panic and anxiety attacks is particularly effective at breaking the associations to its triggering event so that it no longer bothers you and you can take control and get on with life normally.

Additionally Hypnotherapy can help by breaking the conditioned response to the stressful situation by reprogramming your mind to respond in the correct manner, regardless of where you are, what you're doing and who's with you. It has an immediate effect on current stress and anxiety levels evident by reductions in blood pressure, breathing rate, and pulse rates, helping you to start sleeping better, improve your digestion, improve your mood and increase your motivation.
